Streaming FAQs

Now Streaming! June 16 - July 2, 2020

For 25 years, the Seattle Jewish Film Festival (SJFF) has presented outstanding films and programs that celebrate global Jewish and Israeli life, heritage, history, and culture through cinema. After postponing our 25th silver screen anniversary in March, we are excited to announce that we are going virtual! From June 16 - July 2, please join and support us online for the majority of our initially scheduled and the most engaging selection of films and live, interactive Zoom conversations with filmmakers, comedians, award recipients, mixologists, and you!

For a list of films included in the SJFF streaming festival and their scheduled 48-hour viewing windows and live Zooms programs with filmmakers/guests, visit our FILM PAGE or scroll to the bottom to see a list of included/excluded films and their scheduled 48-hour viewing windows. Online ticket sales only. Sales end for each film four (2) hours before viewing window opens. For the safety and integrity of our film festival, filmmaker relationships, and partners, you must not forward links to anyone.

STREAMING FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions

Will the same movies that were originally planned, be available virtually?
Most of the films presented in the streaming SJFF are the same as those originally planned with a few exceptions (listed below). Our apologies for any inconvenience. If you purchased tickets for these films originally, you may contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to donate or exchange your ticket(s) for a new film in the streaming lineup, or request a refund. For all other streaming films, prior ticket purchases will automatically convert to the new date and you will receive email notifications for your film(s) with details how to watch them and log into the Zoom conversations. NOTE: Timing is everything! Film viewing windows are 48 hours without exception.

1 Ticket now = 1 Virtual Household: That said, we deeply appreciate your purchase of or purchasing multiple tickets for those watching with you from home, and/or making a donation upon purchase or here to support SJFF and the J during this critical time as we face considerable losses. Your purchases and gifts help - thank you! If you already purchased multiple tickets for a film before postponement, contact our This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you wish to donate, exchange, or receive a refund for your additional ticket(s).

I purchased an 8-pack before the state mandated COVID-19 closure and SJFF was postponed. Will they still be honored?
Yes!  Anyone who purchased an 8-pack can now screen 8 films total per household since streaming SJFF tickets are per household and not per person. You will receive a separate email with more information from our box office notifying you to reselect films from our streaming offerings (8 total). So, if you already redeemed films, they will be cancelled out and you MUST reselect your films. Please check spam/junk mail for communications regularly, or contact us for help: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

I am a pass holder (VIP/VIP Flex sponsor or Full Pass purchaser), will they still be honored?
Yes!  We love our sponsors and full pass purchasers! All pass holders will have access to 100% of the streaming films no matter what kind of pass you have! Our box office will automatically convert your pass to tickets for all films, and you will receive email notifications with links for each film and details how to watch them. Please check spam/junk mail for communications regularly, or contact us for help: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

How will I access the films from home?
Virtual ticket holders will receive a separate email with a unique link and access instructions for each film or Zoom conversation. You will receive this email at least 2 hours before the 48-hour screening window for each film. You will need an email address and reliable Internet access to participate in the streaming film festival. Films can be streamed on any "smart" device: a desktop or laptop computer, tablet, smart TV, or even a smart mobile phone. There are many ways you can connect these devices to your home TV using an HDMI cable, through device-to-TV-screen mirroring, or through apps like Vimeo easily downloadable on your smart devices. Because many of our films are on Vimeo, we recommend you create a FREE account online in advance for easy login before entering the provided links and passwords or promo codes. For those with smart TVs, Apple TV, or Roku boxes, you can also download the Vimeo app on your TV. See TECH TIPS section below or contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your questions.

When will the link for the films arrive?
NOTE: read all emails from us! Check spam/junk mail regularly and mark us as a "safe sender."
The day of your screening, the links for each individual film will arrive 4 hours prior to the scheduled viewing time then again 2 hours before. If the film program includes a Zoom conversation, ticket purchases will be automatically registered from the email of your original purchase, you will also receive an email (from Zoom) the morning of the event and again 1 hour prior to the scheduled conversation with the login link to participate. We are sending multiple emails to ensure these links are received. If you do not see these emails, make sure to check your junk/spam folder and mark ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. in particular) us as a "safe" sender! Please DO NOT share or forward these links and emails with anyone. We have a set number of logins per film, are tracking users, and this could jeopardize our streaming licensing.

Can the films be viewed more than one time?
Films can be paused and re-started throughout the two-day viewing window; however, you must use the same device each time you access the screening link, and you must complete viewing by the end of the 48-hour window. There is no grace period. So, if a film's viewing window ends at 7 PM, you will be cutoff at 7 PM – please schedule viewing time accordingly. The intent of the single virtual ticket is that members of a household will view together.

How do we access live discussions with guest speakers?
For those films that involve live discussion programs, all ticket purchasers/pass holders will be automatically registered for the Zoom and receive two reminders with the access link (from Zoom) the morning of and one hour prior to the program start time. If you prefer to participate in the discussion via telephone rather than a video conference, the email confirmation you receive for registering will provide phone access information. Zooms are not open to the general public to register. Notifications and registration is connected to the original email of purchase. If you need to register for the Zoom with a different or additional email contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and for community partners with multiple tickets for their sponsored film, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. in advance!
How to Zoom

Will the discussions be interactive? Will there be an opportunity for questions and answers?
Yes, there will be an opportunity to ask and submit questions during the webinar. You can submit questions live via the Zoom chat feature or use the Q&A function. For security and time, we may need to curate questions to some extent.

Can I purchase tickets or a subscription as a gift for someone outside my household?
Yes! Films are a very thoughtful gift. To do this, when you check out, you must enter the recipient's email address. Unfortunately, this means the payment receipt will go to the recipient, but this is how email addresses are collected  for streaming link distribution. We regret the inconvenience, but hope you will still consider giving the gift of film!  If you purchased multiple tickets to a film, you may contact our This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to gift a ticket to another person. We will then add them to the film and Zoom registration and email link distribution.

TECH TIPS:

TO WATCH THE FILMS ON YOUR COMPUTER, TABLET, OR SMARTPHONE:
Once the viewing window opens, click on the link that was provided in the confirmation email you received. Follow any additional instructions regarding virtual login, such as the use of a password or promo code. We recommended that you copy and paste the password rather than trying to type it in. Passwords are case sensitive.

TO WATCH ON YOUR TV (WITH NO SMART TV CAPABILITIES):
You must have a HDMI cable to connect your computer to your TV. Once it is connected, select the correct input source on your TV. This will allow you to mirror the computer screen on your TV. It is strongly recommended that you test this system before the film festival with this YouTube video. (need new link)

TO WATCH ON YOUR SMART TV OR TV WITH SMART DEVICE (USING CHROMECAST OR APPLE AIRPLAY OR SCREENCAST):
Make sure your TV is on the same Wi-Fi on your phone or tablet. Open the viewing link in your email.  On the bottom right of the link select the Airplay or Chromecast icon.

WHAT IF STREAMING IS SLOW OR STUCK?
Bandwidth is often the culprit. Before viewing, we recommend you close all competing apps/browser pages/programs on your device, then launch a singular window/app for film viewing. Competing household users will slow WiFi down too. Try a different browser (i.e., Chrome, Firefox, and Safari tend to worker better than Internet Explorer, for example). Do speed test at www.speedtest.net - bandwidth should be 5 Mbps, ideally 10 MBps. Lower playback quality: many Vimeos automatically play in HD/Hi-definition video. To adjust, click the gear icon in the lower right corner and choose a reduced option (note: video quality may lower as well).   If problems persist, it's good to clear your browser cache too.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I STILL HAVE TECHNICAL PROBLEMS AT HOME VIEWING THE MOVIES?
If you encounter a problem watching your SJFF film(s) at home and have tried the suggestions above with no success, please email:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Please provide your name, email address, phone number, and a brief description of the problem. Our tech team will get back to you as soon as they are able. We recommend that you watch the films early in the viewing windows so that our team has timetroubleshoot any problems if they arise.
