About The Film
In 1930, a group of Jewish athletes rode motorcycles from Tel Aviv to Berlin to spread the word about the first-ever Maccabiah Games (an Olympic-style competition for young Jewish athletes around the world) to be held in 1932. Eighty years after the fall of the Nazi regime, 11 motorcyclists recreate that ride, carrying the torch from Israel to the 2015 Maccabiah Games in Berlin. They are a diverse group: old and young, Israeli, Canadian, and European, two Holocaust survivors and four children of survivors. Gallantly flying the Israeli flag through former killing fields in Europe, they make poignant and emotional pit stops along the way before delivering the torch to the notorious site of the 1936 Nazi Olympics, where Hitler raged against both Jews and African-American track and field athlete Jesse Owens. This biker-flick meets road-trip movie traces the bikers’ spectacularly moving and cathartic pilgrimage.
