About The Film

Discover the real person behind Gilda Radner’s hilarious characters in this documentary through never-before-seen footage, newly discovered personal audio and videotapes, and interviews with Radner's funny friends (Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman, Martin Short). Radner’s recently unearthed diaries are read by a generation of the comedians she inspired, including Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Bill Hader.
Radner was the first performer chosen for the cast of NBC’s Saturday Night Live back in 1975, picked because "she had a goodness which came through whatever she was doing." She rocketed to fame with beloved, recurring characters like Roseanne Roseannadanna and Lisa Loopner, and found humor and warmth in the darkest of times, battling eating disorders and ultimately succumbing to ovarian cancer. Her marriage to actor Gene Wilder and legacy in the comedy world and cancer advocacy shine through 30 years after her passing. Variety calls LOVE, GILDA "exuberant and moving.”

Plays with: WENDY’S SHABBAT (short) at the SJCC screening only
