Showing with Cantor on Trial (archival Yiddish short)
Father, brother, gambler, bum. Toots Shor was the towering personality behind the legendary New York City saloon bearing his name. From the 1940s and well into the 1960s, everyone who was anyone in New York City—athletes, journalists, crooners and movie stars—mixed with ordinary folk in this legendary nightspot. Directed by his granddaughter, Toots is a provocative, loving and unmistakably authentic portrait of this unapologetic self-made man, featuring interviews with Walter Cronkite, Mike Wallace, Frank Gifford and Yogi Berra, among others who called Toots "friend."
Washington State Jewish Historical Society invites you to join them for a post-film lecture and reception (no-host refreshments) upstairs in MOHAI — McCurdy Gallery after the film. Seattle natives Gina Funes and Doug Glant will "reminisce" about their experiences as entertainers in Seattle during the Toots era.
