Nothing To Be Written
Here
47 min Canada, 1996
Wendy Oberlander, Director |
Exiled from Austria and transferred to Canada in 1940,
Peter Oberlander was one of over two thousand Jewish refugees held by Ottawa as
"dangerous enemy aliens" behind barbed wire alongside Nazi POWs. Seeking to undo
the erasure of her fathers story, director Wendy Oberlander skillfully excavates a
silent chapter of Canadian history, while recording yet another unknown moment of
twentieth century Jewish life. In an atmosphere of inquiry that is at once political,
personal, and spiritual, she explores the infinite text of Jewish exile and escape.
