Letter to Mother A Letter To Mother
106 min • Poland, 1938
Yiddish w/subtitles
Joseph Green, Director

A soul-stirring story, universal in its appeal and scope, A Letter to Mother was one of the last Yiddish talkies made in Poland before the Nazi invasion. Star Lucy German plays a Jewish mother saddled with a daydreaming husband and wayward children, struggling to keep her family abreast of poverty and together through turbulent times. Ranked among the foremost foreign films when it opened in 1939, A Letter to Mother is an endearing classic that has lost none of its appeal sixty years later. Bring your hankies – this one’s a tear-jerker!
