"When my brother became ultra-religious, the delicate
fabric that held our family together began to unravel." In The Fifth Commandment, filmmaker
Shimon Azulay focuses the lens on his parents, traditional Moroccan Jews living in
Jerusalem, and their daily struggle to keep a family intact. Despite divisions that
threaten to disrupt every holiday celebration and separate the family each Shabbat, their
joy at seeing the family together is paramount. But for their secular children, efforts to
accommodate the extremes create additional strain. |
