The Vow

wpe2.gif (4332553 bytes)

A Yiddish fantasy about Chaim and Mendl, Yeshiva students in Vilna, who make a sacred pact promising a marriage between their unborn children. Competing suitors and the forces of modernization, a clash of the old and the new, threaten to prevent the fulfillment of their vow resulting in the divine intervention of the prophet Elijah. A newly restored 35MM print brings back to life one of the last films produced in Europe before the Holocaust, A delightful treat filled with authentic scenes of Jewish shtetl life, traditional charming Yiddish love songs and a classic tale of destiny.  Screening with Jewish Life in Vilna.
