Harvey Wang, Director

Vilna

Before WWII, Vilna or Vilnius was the cultural capital of Europe and a hub of Jewish life. Shot in the ghettos of Vilna and Riga, Latvia, the film is a dreamscape of cobblestone, departing trolley cars and clouded memories. Filmmaker Harvey Wang admits that he didn’t even attempt to document the unbearable destruction of this city and its inhabitants. Rather, his wispy film takes us on a short journey searching for Jewish life intangibly lost.

Shown with Port of Last Resort and Meschugge: The Giraffe
