Children
of Chabannes
Despite
the ruthless Vichy laws and the French governments collaboration with the
Nazis, a tiny village in unoccupied France saved the lives of 400 Jewish refugee
children. Filmmaker Lisa Gossels returned to Chabannes with her father and uncle
two child survivors to tell the untold tale of those who risked their
lives and livelihoods to protect them simply because they felt it was the right
thing to do. Interviewed are the extraordinary teachers who taught, loved and
sheltered these children in a converted chateau.
Their remarkable efforts make this a moving and lyrical film about
courage, resilience and resistance.
