Before there was a smash Broadway musical there was Mel Brooks’ sleeper hit movie about shady Broadway producer Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel) and his nerdy accountant Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder). The dynamic duo concoct a scheme to overfinance a huge flop and pocket the excess budget. But the show, Springtime for Hitler, unexpectedly becomes a smash, and Max and Leo are left to clean up the mess. Come help us close out the festival with a glorious new print of what Roger Ebert calls “one of the funniest movies ever made.” |
