FORGET BAGHDAD
Switzerland/Germany 2002 110 min. English/Hebrew/Arabic w/ subtitles Director: Samir
2:30 PM, SUNDAY, MARCH 14, PACIFIC PLACE
Forget Baghdad introduces us to four Jewish Iraqi communists who were forced to leave Iraq and settle in Israel. Life in Israel compelled them to reexamine their identities. “What does it mean to be an enemy of your own past?” Alongside these personal portraits, the film looks at the sterotypes of the “Jew” and the “Arab” in film, and how these images have become ingrained in popular culture. A tour-de-force by one of Europe’s leading documentarians, himself the son of a Shi’ite Muslim Communist from Baghdad.
